To validate Competitor Laminate which has been supplied to DEWA for Substations Kiosks complies with the surface spread of flame classification BS 476: Part 7 standard Class 2 and provide the data recorded on the surface spread of flame.
A flame through a blow torch is applied on the surface at the bottom left corner of the Competitor Laminate mounted in a vertical position. The flame is applied for a period of 1 min and then turned off to observe and record the time for the lasting flame to self extinguish and the smoke generated to self extinguish. The vertical travel distance of the flame is recorded in millimeters and visual observation of any flame penetration on the opposite side of the panel is observed and noted. This methodology is carried out on the Resin side of the panel (considered the internal surface of a Kiosk product) and Gelcoat side of the panel (considered the external surface of a Kiosk product); in this order. The test is recorded on video and photographed at noteworthy events.
Result : FAIL
It is considered that the Competitor Laminate tested to the surface spread of flame classification BS 476: Part7: 1997, demonstrates that the panel as tested does not comply with the requirements for Class 2 or any BS Standard.
A. The internal surface demonstrated flame extinguishing in 9 minutes 20 seconds and smoke extinguishing in 9
minutes 23 seconds. The flame travel was more than 500 mm and there was visible flame penetration on the
external surface of the panel.**
B. The external surface flame and smoke never self extinguished in the testing period of 10 minutes. There was
visible flame penetration on the internal surface of the panel.**
